A Sad Farewell
On Tuesday 7th February we all said our goodbyes to one of our most loved and longest serving employees, Karla Mead.
All the staff came together to shower Karla with gifts and wished her the very best in the next chapter of her life.
Retiring after 9 years as the hotel’s Conference Supervisor, Karla isn’t intent on putting her feet up to tune in to day time television. She has decided she would like to offer all she can to those in need of care and support in the local area.
Reminiscing over her time with us, Karla said “I have loved every minute of it. I have met some amazing people, some very strange customers and made some real friends for life.”
So I speak on behalf of all our customers, Rotary, Probus and our staff past and present, thank you Karla! and Good luck.
The winner of Reigate & Banstead Business of the Year is….. Reigate Manor!
Winning the prestigious SME Surrey Business award for Reigate and Banstead Business of the Year caps off a phenomenal year for Reigate Manor. The hotel has experienced significant growth across all areas of the hotel. Such positive results proved the investment made in 2014 was worthwhile and enabled them to continue driving the hotel forward.
Giles Thomas, General Manager, said, “We are delighted to win this fabulous award. It is a reflection on the management team, which has developed over the past 3 years. This was integral to making sure we provide a consistent high standard of service and the best offering available to our customers.”
Phase two of the hotel’s refurbishment will be completed in during the first quarter of 2017, which includes some general maintenance to the exterior of the building, along with 10 superior bedrooms. The Cellar Room will be transformed into two further meeting rooms.
As Councilor Humphries presented the award, he remarked that Reigate and Banstead is ranked 10 out of 324 English Local Authorities in a new Grant Thornton Vibrant Economy Index, which provides an indication of the vibrancy of the area.
Giles said, “We are very proud to contribute to the growing economy of Reigate and Banstead, as well as taking every opportunity we can to get involved with the friendly community spirit of Reigate town.”

We’ve raised over £5000 for St. Catherine’s Hospice
We’ve been doing a bit of totting up to see how much we’ve managed to raise for St. Catherine’s Hospice this year.
We held two quiz nights hosted by Nicholas Owen and Patrick McIntosh; both were a sellout. We entered a team into the Dragon boat race, which is St. Catherine’s popular annual event and five members of staff pushed themselves to the limit in the Run Reigate ½ marathon.
Add to this the generous donations from our hotel guests who popped some money into the envelopes we leave in the bedrooms, brings the total to a little over £5000 for St. Catherine’s Hospice this year.
Each year St. Catherine’s Hospice cares for over 2,000 patients and their families as they face terminal illness. Our support goes a little way to help them reach more and more people affected by death and bereavement when it is needed most.
Laura Kelly Corporate Fundraiser at St. Catherine’s Hospice sent us this message, “We are very grateful to everyone at Reigate Manor Hotel for their concerted effort throughout the year. They have built on some brilliant fundraising last year; coming up with different events and fund raising ideas involving their staff, customers and the local community. The money they have raised will make a real difference to our patients and their families,”
We will have a stall at the Reigate Christmas Fayre on Saturday 3rd December. So, do come on down and join in the fun festivities. Be sure to buy some of our delicious chocolate brownies, especially made for our final fund raising activity in 2016 for St. Catherine’s Hospice.
SME Surrey Business Awards double finalist
We are delighted to hear that Reigate Manor Hotel is a finalist in not one but two categories in the 2016 SME Surrey Business Awards.
We shall have to wait until 30th November to find out if we have won Reigate and Banstead Council Business of the Year and Best Customer Service.
Giles Thomas, General Manager says, “We have just start the second phase of a £2m refurbishment of the hotel. The hotel is always a vibrant place to visit, either for a cup of coffee, afternoon tea, conferences or overnight stays. We’ve raised £5000 for St. Catherine’s Hospice during 2016 and supported many of the events in Reigate Priory Park during the summer. These are just a few of the exciting happenings at Reigate Manor that I believe have earned us a place as a finalist.”
Damian Cummins, Director at Events and PR, organisers of the awards said, “Reaching the finals of the awards appropriately reflects hard work, enterprise and endeavour in business.”
We wish all the finalists the best of luck!

It was an honour for everybody involved with the hotel to hold The Mayor’s May Ball. This was a fitting final event for The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr. Mrs Joan Spiers, as her year in the Mayoral chains comes to an end. The 150 guests included Mayors from all over Surrey.
Simon Western OBE was the evening’s guest speaker. Councillor Mrs Joan Spiers said, “It was a delightful event and a night which I will always remember. Simon Western is a lovely man and it was a real pleasure to meet him and listen to him speak. The whole evening was perfect and a wonderful way to end my Mayoral year”.
A huge thanks goes to all those that generously donated to raise over £5000 for the Mayor’s chosen charities YMCA East Surrey and The Royal British Legion. So WELL DONE!
